Indian Premier League 2024: In the first game of the season, CSK defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by a stunning six-wicket margin, marking the start of a new era for the team under Ruturaj Gaikwad. The young Indian batsman took over as captain of the joint-most successful club in league history after MS Dhoni announced his retirement, and he has taken the reins well, as the Maharashtrian opener has SOME shoes to fill.

At their stronghold, MA Chidambaram Stadium, often known as Chepaux, Chennai Super Kings welcomed Royal Challengers Banglore for the season opener as the reigning champions were starting a new chapter in their history. RCB won the toss and chose to bat first. They got off to a strong start, scoring 33 runs in the first three overs. However, a certain “Fizz” unsettled their middle and upper order as Bangladeshi left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman tore through the RCB batting order, taking four wickets and amassing 4/29 in his four overs.

Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik had other ideas, as the pair managed to record a partnership of 95 off 50 balls for the sixth wicket and managed to put up a total of 173, while the rest of the RCB team was reeling at 78/5 in 12 overs and facing a total of less than 140.

In response, the RCB bowlers got off to a terrible start as all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, a Kiwi, went on a rampage in his IPL debut, smashing a quickfire 37 off 15 balls, giving the CSK side a significant advantage in their pursuit of 174. Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell’s removal by new signing Cameron Green did provide some optimism for a comeback, but an outstanding six-wicket victory against RCB was led by Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube, who shared an unbroken combination of 66 off 37 for the fifth wicket.
