After having ankle surgery, India bowler Mohammed Shami says he is “looking forward to getting back on my feet” and will miss the IPL

Senior Indian bowler Mohammed Shami will miss the Indian Premier League next month and maybe the T20 World Cup in June due to a successful operation on his left achilles tendon.

The 33-year-old had surgery in London on Monday. The last time he played for India was in the ODI World Cup final against Australia on November 19.

Shami anticipates needing at least three months to heal, despite her desire to “get back on my feet soon.” Thus, as reported by PTI last week, he would miss the Indian Premier League, which is scheduled to run from March 22 to May 26.

Shami is also a questionable starter for the USA and Caribbean T20 World Cups.

I just had a successful achilles tendon heel procedure! Though it will take some time, I’m looking forward to getting back on my feet,” Shami tweeted on Monday on X, posting many images of himself in the hospital.

With 24 wickets, Shami was a key player in India’s incredible ODI World Cup campaign. Despite having trouble landing, he battled through discomfort and didn’t let it stop him from doing well.

In January, he took a plane to London to get specific injections in his ankles. Nevertheless, the drug proved ineffective, and the quick bowler was forced to choose surgery.

Following Shami’s operation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also hoped her a quick recovery.

Modi said on X: “@MdShami11, I hope you get well soon! Best wishes! I have no doubt that you will recover from this wound with the bravery that defines you.

The Gujarat Titans, who also sent all-rounder Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal, are severely hurting without Shami. Shami was the team’s leading wicket-taker in the previous IPL season, when they finished second.

In his ten-year career, Shami—who was recently awarded the Arjuna Award—has amassed 229 Test, 195 ODI, and 24 T20 wickets.

The National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) injury recovery management regimen for Shami is called into doubt by this development.

Additionally, it is quite doubtful that the pacer will be able to return before India’s October–November home Test matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh. The highly anticipated away series versus Australia may be his objective.
