Australia vs. Pakistan, 2nd Test: Australia Stays the Same While Pakistan Drops Sarfaraz Ahmed in Favor of Muhammad Rizwan

Australia, who omitted experienced wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed, picked an unchanged team for the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday in an attempt to win the series.

<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-322000″ src=”×422.jpg” alt=” australia vs pakistan 2nd test australia stays the same while pakistan drops sarfa” width=”1173″ height=”660″ title=”Australia vs. Pakistan, 2nd Test: Australia Stays the Same While Pakistan Drops Sarfaraz Ahmed in Favor of Muhammad Rizwan 6″ srcset=”×422.jpg 750w,×576.jpg 1024w,×432.jpg 768w,×220.jpg 390w,×84.jpg 150w, 1280w” sizes=”(max-width: 1173px) 100vw, 1173px” />

At the first Test in Perth, the hosts destroyed Shan Masood’s team by 360 runs in four days, with pace spearheads Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood all escaping unharmed.

That implies that Scott Boland will not play, having taken 6-7 against England in 2021 at the MCG on his debut.

“On a rainy Christmas Day, we’re big fans of Scotty, I don’t think that’s a secret,” Captain Cummins said to reporters.

“He’s prepared to go in case anything comes up, so I’m confident he’ll have a role eventually.

“We love what you bring, but you missed out on this one. Don’t change, keep working hard, and make sure you stay ready,” is the constant message given to Boland.

On the first day of competition, showers and maybe thunderstorms are predicted; however, by Wednesday afternoon, the weather is anticipated to clear, and Cummins expressed confidence in the outcome.

“I believe there will be enough time to complete the game. He said, “I don’t think anything will change with the weather.”

“It seems to be a fairly excellent wicket. A fair amount of grass, maybe a touch less green and a little firmer than the previous year.

Pakistan’s fast bowler Khurram Shahzad and their two best spinners, Abrar Ahmed and Noman Ali, were both ruled out of the Melbourne match due to injuries sustained since Perth.

They selected a 12-man team, leaving out speedster Faheem Ashraf and captain Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Mohammad Nawaz will start in goal, while Hasan Ali and Mir Hamza will compete with seasoned player Shaheen Shah Afridi and standout rookie Aamer Jamal for Shahzad’s spot in the attack.

Sajid Khan is their sole available spin option because Ahmed and Ali are out.

Masood said, “We believe Rizwan is prepared, and we can give Sarfaraz a little time off to heal and return.”

It’s more of a tactical choice based on the circumstances and what each player can provide.

Australia XI: Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins (captain), Nathan Lyon, David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, and Travis Head

Pakistan XII: Hasan Ali, Mir Hamza, Aamer Jamal, Sajid Khan, Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, Agha Salman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali, Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood (captain),
